Alcohol Offense
March 30: BYU police cited a male student for public intoxication in Helaman Halls. The student also lied to police when he told them his name and age.
Criminal Mischief
March 27: Students received a strong verbal warning from a BYU police officer when they were caught trying to blind drivers by shining light in their eyes with small hand-held mirrors.
March 27: An upset driver called BYU police when students hit his car with a water balloon on North Campus Drive. The driver decided not to press charges despite the fact that the water balloon had broken his grill. The students promised to replace the damaged grill, which will cost an estimated $200.
Disorderly Conduct
March 26: A female student called BYU police when she noticed a man sitting in a parked car near the Smith Field House. When she approached the car she realized that the man was wearing only a tee shirt. When police arrived the man was nowhere to be found.
March 28: Two BYU students received citations for skateboarding on campus. The students had received a warning from another BYU police officer five minutes prior to their second encounter with the police.
Suspicious Behavior
March 29: A group of adolescent females called BYU police when an elderly female accosted and threatened them in the bathroom. The girls all went to use the restrooms at the same time and the woman was upset that there was no open stall. Police were not able to locate the elderly female.
March 29: A student called BYU police when she saw a man walking near the Smith Field House carrying a rifle case. The BYU police officer determined that the rifle case was empty as it was a soft folded case.
Theft
March 26: The mother of a BYU student called the police when she suspected that her daughter's roommate stole her butter knife. The mother later called to drop the charges.
March 26: A male BYU student called police when he discovered that his checkbook had been stolen from his dorm room in Helaman Halls. Since reporting the theft to BYU police, four checks have been forged and cashed. The incident is under investigation.
March 30: A BYU student called police when he believed his car was stolen. The car later appeared in his parking lot and police believe that someone took it out for a joy ride without the permission of the owner. The police have no known suspects.
Trespassing
March 27: BYU police arrested a female student for shoplifting. An employee saw the student take four books she had not paid for. The four books are worth $32.88 and the student has been banned from the BYU Bookstore for 72 hours.
March 30: BYU police found a 61-year-old homeless man who was living on campus and asked him to leave. The man has been banned from campus.
Welfare Check
March 27: Concerned students called BYU police when they noticed a woman sleeping the bathroom for an extended period of time. The woman is a known alcoholic and claimed to be under the influence of medication.
