Latter-day Saints will enjoy blessings of spiritual peace if they constantly search for opportunities to strengthen their personal roots -- both spiritual and physical, Elder Russell M. Nelson said at Saturday afternoon's General Conference session.

"Because we have a spirit as well as a physical body, we also have spiritual roots that go way back," he said. "They shape our values, our beliefs and our faith. Spiritual roots guide our commitment to the ideals and teachings of the Lord."

One important root that will help strengthen testimony is the root of family history, Elder Nelson said. Remembering faithful ancestors will help each of us to be more strongly rooted in the gospel.

He said another important root that must be developed is an understanding of basic gospel principles.

"As we teach each of these doctrines, we realize how very firm is our foundation," he said. "As we apply these doctrines in our lives, the roots of our religion become part of our own spiritual strength."
