Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin concluded Saturday afternoon's General Conference session by giving five key steps to obtaining heavenly and earthly financial freedom.

He said we must pay our tithing, spend less than we earn, learn to save, honor our financial obligations and teach our children to follow our example.

"Remember this, debt is a form of bondage and is a financial termite," he said. "We think we own things, but the reality is, things own us."

Elder Wirthlin said we not only have earthly debts, but also debts to our ancestors and the Lord.

He also said that because of Jesus Christ we will live forever, and because of the atonement, our sins can be swept away.
