"Celestial marriage is a wonderful thing and a gift beyond all others," said Elder F. Burton Howard.
Elder Howard outlined the three important parts of celestial marriage.
First, we make important covenants in the temple when we are sealed in eternal marriage. When a husband and wife keep these covenants, they will be happy.
Second, marriage is ordained of God. God set up eternal marriage for us, to make us happy and to make us grow.
Finally, marriage is a partnership with God. God wants us to succeed in eternal marriage. He has promised to help if we keep our covenants."Those who verbally abuse their wives or husbands are not keeping their covenants," said Elder Howard on abuse in the home.
We will have no help in eternal marriage with the partnership with God if we abuse our temple covenants.
"If we are not keeping our part of the covenant, we have no promise," said Elder Howard.
Eternal Marriage can be compared to a set of silverware. It is much harder to use silverware, but if used correctly, it can be around for a long time.
"Marriage is just like silverware," said Elder Howard. "If you want something to last forever you treat it differently."
