"If all else fails, please follow the instructions," said Elder D. Rex Gerratt in his counsel concerning the choices we make in our lives.
Elder Gerratt, a member of the Quorum of the Seventy, said life is short and time is precious. This is the time for men to prepare to meet God.
In preparing to meet God, we must realize we are imperfect and that we must call on our Father in Heaven for guidance, Elder Gerratt said.
He said we can receive instruction by first having a sincere desire, and by our faith that the Lord will give us answers to our prayers because he knows and loves us.
However, in our desire to receive answer, we need to realize that he will answer us in his own time and in his own way, said Elder Gerratt. He said whenever we are seeking guidance in our lives, we are encouraged to bow our heads or drop to our knees in prayer.
Elder Gerratt said we should ask for comfort, direction and understanding, but at the same time, acknowledge and thank the Lord for his sacrifice.
All scripture is given from God and is profitable for our direction, he said.
Elder Gerratt said to follow the instructions we receive from the Lord requires hard work, commitment and enduring to the end.
"If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear," he said.
If we prepare as we should, the Lord will keep His end of the bargain, Elder Gerratt said.
Quoting President Hinckley, Elder Gerratt said: "God has made it clear, that if we will not forsake Him, He will not forsake us."
He said after receiving counsel, we must act on the promptings received.
"If all else fails, please follow the instructions," he said.
