Elder James M. Dunn of the Quorum of the Seventy said the world is full of shrill and accusatory words, but occasionally, precious words are heard - words to live by.
Elder Dunn said these words, by President Thomas S. Monson, are such worthy words: "God is the father. Man is the brother. Life is a mission, and not a career."
When people understand their relationship to Heavenly Father, Elder Dunn assured, it helps them understand their potential and how they ought to live.
It also helps them understand that everyone is a child of the same God and all are brothers and sisters.
"As siblings we must see that our Heavenly Father loves all his children equally," Elder Dunn said.He predicted Heavenly Father is disappointed when he sees his children treating each other badly.
Elder Dunn also counseled members to use their "precious time in mortality" wisely.
He said making a living and indulging in pleasures, although good when not in excess, are not vital to meeting the expectations of Heavenly Father.
He said rather, people can meet those expectations by being "obedient to the commandments, keeping sacred covenants and being anxiously engaged in a good cause."
Elder Dunn warned against filling lives with pursuits of pleasure and gain, such as men who refuse to marry or women who surrender their virtue for foolish relationships.
He did commend, however, the thousands who plan and live their lives in compliance with the gospel.
"They know how to be serious and have fun," Elder Dunn said of faithful families. "They listen to the word and they obey the word."
Elder Dunn counseled members that God's words are the words faithful families live by.
These words are sure and will not fail, he said.
