Joseph B. Wirthlin spoke of the power of the gift of the Holy Ghost and the light it gives the children of God in times of darkness.
"As light penetrates the darkness and makes things visible, so does the Holy Ghost bring light to our lives," he said.
Wirthlin described the blessings that can come as a result of obeying the still small voice.
"The gift of the Holy Ghost is the right to receive the Holy Ghost as constant companion," he said. "But this does not mean it immediately becomes ours, we must continue to earn it and not take this gift for granted.
He urged members to live worthy to have the Holy Ghost in their lives."If we're not careful, the things of this world can crowd out the things of the Spirit," he said. "Spend more time at the temple and less time seeking entertainment."
Wirthlin told of Joseph Smith's last message to the Saints, which came through Brigham Young.
He said Joseph said to keep the Spirit of the Lord, and it will lead you. Joseph said it would yield the fruits of the kingdom.
"Ask yourselves, do I have the Spirit in my life? Am I happy?" Wirthlin said.
He concluded his message with a powerful challenge to the Saints to repent, live the gospel and have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
