President Gordon B. Hinckley spoke Saturday morning April 5 to an audience of church members across continents, cultures and 56 languages, reporting the powerful work of Lord continues to surge ahead.
"With all the troubles with which we are confronted, I am pleased to report that the work of the Lord goes forward," he said.
Around the world, the fear of war lingers in the minds of all. President Hinckley stressed the work of the Lord in his church will not be deterred.
"These are difficult times," President Hinckley said. "The economy is struggling. There is conflict in the world, but the Almighty is keeping his promise that he will bless those that walk in faith."
President Hinckley assured the congregation that the Church would stay out of debt and use its funds wisely."It is sufficient to say the church is in good condition," President Hinckley said.
These positive assurances were coupled with President Hinckley's urge for the members of the church to continually strive to better themselves. He called on each member of the church to reach out to new converts.
"There is room for improvement," President Hinckley said. "I urge you to work at it constantly."
This included a warning for Latter-day Saints to stay away from quick "get-rich-quick" schemes. President Hinckley said these are merely designed to trap the gullible, and the Lord's people must protect themselves from this danger.
President Hinckley said he is pleased by the increase in temple attendance and family preparedness in the church.
