Elder Kenneth Johnson of the Seventy

Some things only can be seen by the power of the Holy Ghost which is given to those who love the Lord, said Elder Kenneth Johnson of the Seventy in his Sunday afternoon address.

"The light of Christ will, if followed, lead us to the source of light which is the Father and the Son," he said.

Elder Johnson emphasized that we should hearken to the promptings of the Holy Ghost not just hear.

He spoke of a story from his childhood where his friends influenced him to take apples from a neighbor's tree.

The apples weren't ripe enough to eat, he said. They were bitter. They gave him stomach cramps and nausea, he said. But a feeling within me was causing more discomfort than the unripe apples.

There is also a feeling within each of us sometimes described as the concience but more approapriately called the still small voice, he said.

We cannot set out on a wrong course without first ignoring a prompting.

Another time his friends tried to influence him to burn tabacco.

I was not raised in the gospel I knew nothing of the word of wisdom but there was something inside me that had restrained me, he said. When I left I felt good inside.

He said, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man. Through the Spirit we may know Jesus Christ our Savior
